Cotati Cohousing, located in Cotati
on Ross Street and Old Redwood Hwy., is a 30 unit
mixed-use residential cohousing community with many
notable features. The two and a half acre site contains
eight residential buildings, carport structures, commercial
retail space, a common house, an exercise building,
an accessible workshop, all complemented by a spacious
outdoor community area and garden. In 2003 the development
was awarded the title "Best Development" by the Sonoma
County Transportation and Land Use Report.

The residential units range in size
from 900 to 1500 square feet. The Common House, pictured
above, is used daily by residents. The Common House
contains a full kitchen, dining room, lounge and children's
play area. The great room features high ceilings,
wood finishes and a fireplace to reinforce the social
community. The Common House also includes a few guest
rooms for overnight visitors and an airy outdoor patio.
Many green features were incorporated to make the
buildings energy efficient and environmentally friendly
including hydronic heating, radiant roof barriers,
cellulose insulation, advanced framing, decreased
storm water run off, permaculture landscape design
and many other features.
